It is the protocol for the host board to pay all the expenses of the touring team and because there is no domestic cricket in England, the West Indies will have to select an expanded squad so they can play matches between themselves to prepare for the Test series, which adds to the costs of the trip.

"To be clear, we will only train and potentially play cricket behind closed doors if we know it is absolutely safe to do so and is fully supported by the Government".

England face a mounting bill to get the Test series against West Indies under way in July, with the need to charter private flights for the tourists and cover the cost of up to 15 additional squad players.

By starting with the bowlers, England's attack should have seven weeks to get overs under the belts before the rescheduled first Test.

Speaking on the Mason and Guest radio programme on the Voice of Barbados on Tuesday, Grave said CWI is now in "close consultation with our finance strategy advisory committee that was established about four weeks ago and obviously with the board of directors and many other stakeholders including obviously the players and staff", about the financial situation which threatens to become worse if upcoming series are unable to be played because of the Covid-19 pandemic. But the former England spinner added that were worldwide matches to take place amid the coronavirus it was "not realistic" for players to spend 10 weeks in squad quarantine away from their families.

"It would be seven weeks of very much training at the ground, staying at the ground and very much being isolated within that hotel environment".

"I would be nervous, certainly", said Giles. But we're hopeful at this stage that live cricket can return somewhere in the world soon because the world of cricket, professional cricket in particular, needs that to happen as soon as possible.

"The players would be very much in a bubble", said Grave.
