  • Governor Encourages Eligible New Yorkers To Get Tested For COVID-19

Cuomo, who on Friday began the phased reopening of NY in certain regions, said there would be guidelines for participants in any of the races and added that he supported the resumption of sports without fans where possible, including baseball. "That is the whole test", the governor said as he sat back down. "I'm not in pain, I'm not in discomfort, ' he said afterwards. The more tests, the better for the state, the better for society, the better for your family, the better for you".

To show how quick it is to take a test, Cuomo took one himself during the briefing.

Five regions in upstate NY are now in the first phase of reopening, after Cuomo said this week that they met safety criteria that include declines in the number of hospitalizations and deaths from COVID-19. New York City meets four metrics, as of this writing.

The state is expanding eligibility as it deals with a surplus of testing capacity.

Health officials are now urging more residents to get tested regardless of the severity of their symptoms. He also announced that the criteria to get tested has expanded to include those who would return to work in phase one. The governor also touted a new website to help individuals determine whether they should be tested and which testing location is closest.
