  • 'It's our happy hour': State to allow 50 people into pubs

June 1 will also see restaurants, cafes, pubs and other hospitality venues open up for up to 50 people at any one time.

"Things will be very different", said Berejiklian at this afternoon's press conference. "Because the last thing we want to do is have to shut businesses down because they haven't complied".

"They will only be able to have as many customers as is allowed in that space according to the four-square-metre rule".

Additionally, bookings of more than 10 people will be banned, and patrons won't be allowed to stand. This means that smaller venues which can not accommodate 50 people while also respecting social distancing will have to adjust their patron limits accordingly. And you'll still need to be seated at a table, even if it's a pub.

Deputy Premier John Barilaro says gyms, yoga studios, and beauticians could also be back in business in the coming month or so.

"We've opened up the regions and now it's our happy hour, time to wine and dine", Deputy Premier John Barilaro boasted.

The increase in patronage aligns with the easing of regional travel restrictions across the state and the opening of museums, galleries and libraries from June 1.

"Effective immediately, any establishment with indoor dining can avail themselves of the reduction in restrictions".

The measures also allow pubs to open immediately, but still rule out front bar service with patrons having to be seated.

The changes will remain in force until 5 June, when SA will move to stage two, which is likely to result in larger numbers allowed in most venues.
