  • Ontario Still Not Set To Increase Group Sizes

In a statement to the province today, Premier Doug Ford urged residents not to let their guards down against COVID-19. During his daily briefing Ford was asked if he will consider rolling back the entire province because of the thousands of people who gathered at a Toronto park and for the most part ignored public health measures.

"My recommendation to anyone at Trinity Bellwoods, why don't you do us all a favour and go get tested now", he said Monday.

The 404 new cases represent an increase of 1.6 per cent over Sunday's total.

The new cases bring the total number of confirmed infections of the novel coronavirus since the outbreak began in January to almost 26,000. He says large employers and workplaces with big groups of employees will be tested.

The messaging is a marked change from earlier Ministry of Health guidelines for the general public, which said that only people displaying one or more symptoms of the novel coronavirus should be tested. "The people of Toronto are going to go into rural areas, and we need to tighten things up".

"If they continue to increase, that will be a time for us to stay paused to look at the situation, understand why the numbers are increasing, and take action or don't take action going forward".

It's also the seventh straight day that Ontario has failed to meet its goal of 16,000 tests a day, or its max capacity of 21,000.
