  • Apple buys machine learning specialist Inductiv to bolster Siri, AI projects

According to a report from Bloomberg, Apple recently acquired Inductiv Inc., a machine learning startup that has the technology to help improve Siri.

Apple issued its standard statement regarding the acquisition, saying it "buys smaller technology companies from time to time and we generally do not discuss our objective or plans". The company has not yet responded to Business Insider's request for comment. Ryan Clancy lists himself as a software developer at Inductiv from September to April before changing his profile to software engineer at Apple, also in April.

The technology developed by Inductiv uses artificial intelligence to correct errors in data as clean data is very important for machine learning, a powerful and even popular kind of AI that usually helps in enhancement of technology with lesser human intervention.

Apple also bought Voysis earlier this year with a view to improving speech recognition in Siri - recognising more natural language would certainly give Siri a large part of the boost it needs. The engineering team from Waterloo, Ontario-based Inductiv joined Apple in recent weeks to work on Siri, machine learning and data science.

NCAA extends recruiting dead period through end of July
The Buckeyes have also started to make headway in its 2022 recruiting class which holds three commits, second only to LSU. Recruiting doesn't stop, however, as calls, texts, and various other forms of virtual contact are still allowed.

It was reported that the tech from these three deals could be used for developing elements of Apple's Siri voice assistant.

Apple has made a push to improve Siri in recent years as voice assistants have become more common in the home and elsewhere.

Apple's latest acquisition, which comes after it also acquired the DarkSky weather app and NextVR entertainment platform, just might give it what it needs to finally turn Siri into the voice assistant that everyone wants - whether the consumer uses an Apple-branded device or not. Further, Apple had finished its acquisition in 2018 of Silk Labs, an artificial intelligence startup focused on privacy.
