Maidenhead MP Theresa May has said Dominic Cummings did not follow "the spirit of the guidance" by travelling 260 miles from London to Durham during the United Kingdom lockdown.

She said: "The Prime Minister and Dominic Cummings have both made statements about Mr Cummings' actions".

He added that he "was not focused on his movements at all" and "wasn't aware of them".

"I can well understand the anger of those who have been abiding by the spirit of the guidance given by the Government and expect others to do so".

Mr Raab told Sky's Sophy Ridge on Sunday: 'To be honest with you, when the story broke was when I first became aware of the detail of it.

The former prime minister said the actions of Boris Johnson's chief adviser revealed a mismatch between what the Government had been telling the public to do and the intricacies of the coronavirus legislation.

Israeli police fatally shoot Palestinian in Jerusalem - spokesman
The Palestinians condemned on Saturday the Israeli police for killing a mentally disabled Palestinian man in East Jerusalem. They also raided the Hallak home in Wad el-Joz, said the Palestinians.

"I mean I knew Dom was unwell and he was out of action, and obviously I wanted him and the Prime Minister to get well soon, but I wasn't focused on his movements at all and I wasn't aware of them".

It emerged last weekend that in March, Mr Cummings drove from his London home to his parents' farm in County Durham with his wife - who had coronavirus symptoms - and his son.

In a public statement, the PM's chief adviser explained he decided to make the trip because he felt it would be better to self-isolate in a place where he had options for childcare if required, and insisted he had acted "reasonably" and within the law.

He has refused to apologise for that journey, or another to a local castle that he said he took to test his eyes and driving ability after falling ill, and which British police said may have breached lockdown rules.

The petition on the site, entitled "Dominic Cummings must be sacked" has so far been signed by more than 1,001,260 people.

Meanwhile, Foreign Affairs Committee chairman Tom Tugendhat has added his name to a growing list of Conservative MPs "frustrated" by the situation surrounding Mr Cummings. If you value what we are doing, you can help us by making a contribution to the cost of our journalism.
