  • Ontario confirms 323 new COVID-19 cases, 17 more deaths

Ontario has once again recorded more than 300 new cases of COVID-19 as the number of tests completed in a single day falls back below the provincial goal of 20,000.

When asked if regions would have to stay closed longer if they're within a close drive of the City of Toronto - which has the highest rate of COVID-19 infection in Ontario - Chief Medical Officer of Health Dr. David Williams said that is still under consideration.

As of Sunday, 21,810 cases have been resolved - or slightly over 78 per cent of cases.

As of Sunday, there are 781 individuals now in hospital, with 118 being treated in intensive care (ICU) and 90 patients on ventilators.

Meanwhile, B.C.'s death toll from the virus remains at 164. Could it happen with COVID-19? As of Saturday, the Fraser Health region had 1,285 confirmed cases while the Vancouver Coastal Health region reported 902.

As of 10:30 am on May 31, Ontario is reporting 27,859 cases of the novel coronavirus in the province.

A total of 8,242 cases are considered resolved.

Peel Public Health says 175 residents have died in long-term care homes.

There have been 718,341 tests completed so far, that means 17,014 completed since Saturday. There are now outbreaks in 33 long-term care homes, retirement residences, and hospitals, and 611 residents in these facilities have tested positive for the virus.

Drive-in theatres have been operating in other parts of the country, though Ontario health officials were concerned about the potential spread of COVID-19 without sufficient physical distancing.

Most theatres have installed portable washrooms and online ordering systems that allow them to deliver food and drinks safely to customers' cars.
