The background to the talks are the United Kingdom is set to leave the EU single market & customs union with no trade deal in place if agreement is not reached by the end of the year.

Ahead of this week's key Brexit negotiations between the United Kingdom and the European Union (EU) diplomats, The Telegraph came out with the news suggesting further hardships for both the ends in agreeing over the trade relations during 2021.

"The UK negotiators need to be fully in line with what the Prime Minister signed-up to with us".

Britain formally left the European Union nations last January but still largely operates as if it were a member, thanks to a standstill grace period which expires on December 31.

Mr Davis revealed that the United Kingdom would have foreseen this, telling Nick that "the end of the negotiation gets very hard and tough" and with all that has gone on in the world in the past few months, the EU's offer of a Brexit extension is the poison apple that the United Kingdom negotiators must steer clear from.

British Prime Minister Boris Johnson has vowed not to extend the talks past the current deadline - something he must do by the end of June - and the prospects of a broad new deal look bleak.

London "has been taking a step back - two steps back, three steps back - from the original commitments", Barnier told the British Sunday Times newspaper ahead of a fourth and last scheduled round of Brexit negotiations this week.

Therefore, the next step in the talks was "damage limitation" and, if no agreement was reached, that would result in "even more consequences" at the worst time possible. And then of course those will be added to the already very serious consequences of the coronavirus crisis.

Justyn Ross ruled out for season with upcoming surgery
If there is a college football season in the fall, Clemson's potential first-round draft choice Justyn Ross won't be part of it. Swinney said that Ross feels fine now but it is a condition that would show up more as he plays a game like football.

The previous round of talks ended in acrimony in May.

The EU has reportedly offered Britain preferential trade terms if Johnson agrees to the major standards and regulations followed by the bloc.

Further delays were caused by Mr Barnier and his United Kingdom counterpart, David Frost, being forced into isolation after each catching the virus.

The British government, however, argues that the whole point of Brexit was to give Britain the right to set its own rules.

The post-Brexit transitional period could possibly be extended by two years at a summit in June.

Mr Barnier insisted Brexit was a "lose-lose" for both sides and no one - not even Nigel Farage - had shown any "added value" to the UK's departure.

A British government source shot back that Brussels "needs to inject some political reality in into its approach".
