  • NBA owners are expected to approve league commissioner Adam Silver's recommendation on a format to restart the 2019-20 season at the end of July in Orlando Fla. File

Teams expect Silver's proposal to include approximately 20-22 clubs, with the teams at the bottom of the standing left out, according to Wojnarowski, Ramona Shelburne, and Zach Lowe (Twitter link).

The NBA is reportedly also considering restarting the season with either 20 or 22 teams involved, with the final few playoff positions to be determined with either a play-in tournament or by group-stage play similar to the World Cup format.

During a meeting with the Board of Governors Friday, most general managers expressed the desire to jump straight into the playoffs, the report said. According to ESPN, only one of the four scenarios - bringing back all 30 teams - is no longer being considered.

In order for the league to resume, there needs to be a three-fourths majority on the vote.

Before the teams vote on the matter, the Brooklyn Nets (+5000), Indiana Pacers (+8000), and New Orleans Pelicans (+10000) have the most to gain.

The NBA has finally given out some positive news about the leagues returning, with sources telling ESPN that the owners are backing Silver's return proposal.

The league's plans also include holding a 24-team playoff in two hub cities with games to begin when things are back to normal. Now for the Washington Wizards, it's a matter of finding out whether they'll be one of the teams allowed to play when games resume.

The New Orleans Pelicans, Portland Trail Blazers, San Antonio Spurs and Sacramento Kings are all within four games of the eight seed in the Western Conference Playoffs, so it makes sense as to why the National Basketball Association would want to see them get a chance to compete for a postseason spot.
