  • Three West Indies cricketers refuse to tour England

The squad will not include Darren Bravo, Keemo Paul or Shimron Hetmyer who have all opted out of the three-Test match tour.

Three West Indies players have declined to travel to England for next month's three-Test tour due to concerns over the coronavirus, Sportsmail has learned.

The biggest surprise was no place in the 14-man Test squad for Shannon Gabriel, who led the attack against England a year ago but has struggled since then, enduring an unsuccessful stint with Gloucestershire last summer and undergoing ankle surgery in November. The touring party that will all be tested for COVID-19 this week, is scheduled to fly to England on private charters on June 8.

England said the venues - the Aegas Bowl in Southampton and Old Trafford in Manchester - were chosen because they had hotels attached or nearby and could be turned into bio-secure environments.

"I expect that the bowling unit will once again provide a serious challenge for England and our batting will have to deliver.the West Indies has a good chance of retaining the Wisden Trophy. His patience and application were evident", CWI's Lead Selector, Roger Harper said. He could prove a real asset to the team in England. His ability to hold the innings together and bat through tight situations could serve the team very well. Jermaine Blackwood returns by sheer weight of performance in the domestic First-Class season. He is also a useful leg-spinner, having bagged 45 scalps in first-class cricket. Cricket West Indies (CWI) announced a 14-man squad for the series, which is expected to mark the restart of worldwide cricket if it gets the final approval from the United Kingdom government. Gabriel, who last played in a Test against India in August 2019, is making a return to the set-up after undergoing a surgery on his troublesome ankle.

According to sources, England will play three T20Is against Ireland soon after the series against West Indies, with all three matches planned to be played in Southampton.

But a series that will span just 21 days remains subject to final approval from the United Kingdom government.

With the United Kingdom still weathering the storm of the coronavirus pandemic, the three-match series is being played behind closed doors in supposedly bio-secure conditions from 8 July, with players living in the on-site hotels at the Ageas Bowl and Old Trafford and subject to a rigorous testing regime. West Indies squad: Jason Holder (captain), Jermaine Blackwood, Nkrumah Bonner, Kraigg Brathwaite, Shamarh Brooks, John Campbell, Roston Chase, Rahkeem Cornwall, Shane Dowrich (wicketkeeper), Chemar Holder, Shai Hope, Alzarri Joseph, Raymon Reifer, Kemar Roach.
