  • Labour anti Semitism row Starmer to meet MPs after Long Bailey sacking

Jon Lansman, the founder of the pro-Jeremy Corbyn group Momentum, said Labour leader Sir Keir Starmer needs to "build trust" with the left of the party after he sacked Rebecca Long-Bailey.

Some don't believe Maxine Peake's assertion - that the American police had learned the technique that killed George Floyd from the Israeli security services - was anti-Semitic.

Mrs Extensive-Bailey later on stated she did not concur with all facets of the posting.

Starmer said he had asked Rebecca Long-Bailey to resign as party education spokeswoman.

In a statement, the Jewish Labor Movement welcomed the move.

In later tweets, Long-Bailey said her Twitter post was not an endorsement of all aspects of Peake's comments in the article.

"I imagine it is a horrendous problem and I consider Rebecca Extensive-Bailey's reaction was pathetic".

In the article, actor Maxine Peake said police linked to the death of George Floyd in the USA had learned their tactics from the Israeli secret services.

The Independent post quoted the Israeli police denying Ms Peake's declare. The actress afterwards acknowledged it was "inaccurate", including on Twitter that she located racism and anti-Semitism "abhorrent".

It also said that Mr Starmer's actions cast doubt over his claims, made while he was running against Ms Long Bailey for the leadership earlier this year, to "be against factionalism and for party unity".

"What he did do effectively was condemn Maxine Peake, a national treasure, for anti-Semitism and he did that without telling her the charges, without any application of the principles of natural justice, without allowing her to respond which is how a Labour disciplinary panel would expect this to have been dealt with".

She later added that she agreed on the wording of her explanation with the Labour Party Leader's Office, but was "subsequently instructed to take both this agreed clarification and my original retweet down".

Nonetheless, John McDonnell, who was shadow chancellor beneath Mr Corbyn, was essential of the determination, declaring: "All over dialogue of anti-Semitism it truly is usually been stated criticism of tactics of Israeli state is not anti-Semitic".

All the usual suspects from the hard Left put their heads over the parapet, each one appalled that Long-Bailey had been sacked, some of them warning of dire consequences to the leadership and - again, that ambiguous and optimistically-defined word - unity. I can understand the difficulties of Keir's position.

Starmer stood down Long-Bailey from the frontbench after she shared an interview containing the claim that USA police learnt kneeling on people's necks "from seminars with Israeli secret services".

"Keir said he wanted a unity cabinet and he wanted people from across the party".

And for Sir Keir, this is all about tackling the poisonous perception of anti-Semitism in the Labour Social gathering ahead of a most likely damning report from the Equality and Human Legal rights Fee.

Who is Rebecca Very long-Bailey?

The removal of Mrs Long-Bailey was not part of a grand plan, they said, and it was "nonsense" that he was simply seeking an excuse to fire her.

At university, she studied politics and sociology and later researched regulation through component-time programs.

She joined the Labour Party in 2010 and was selected as Labour candidate for Salford and Eccles in the 2015 election.
