  • Rolling Stones threaten Trump

On Sunday, the band said their legal team is working with music rights organization BMI to stop the president from using their materials at his events, the report said.

"The BMI have notified the Trump campaign on behalf of the Stones that the unauthorised use of their songs will constitute a breach of its licensing agreement", read the statement, which was retweeted by the Rolling Stones official Twitter account.

The statement emphasized that if Trump continued playing their music, he would be subject to legal action.

The Trump campaign used the song You Can't Always Get What You Want at last week's rally in Tulsa, Oklahoma. But a song can be excluded if the artist or publisher objects to the song's use for political purposes.

BMI told Deadline that the Trump campaign has a "Political Entities License" that allows "the public performance of more than 15 million musical works in BMI's repertoire wherever campaign events occur".

They tweeted at the time: "The Rolling Stones do not endorse Donald Trump".

Among other famous performers who have accused Trump of illegal use of their music are Elton John, Adele, Rihanna, Panic!

Asked if the Trump campaign has responded to its letter, the BMI spokesperson said, "Not as of this date". Tom Petty would never want a song of his to be used in a campaign of hate.

The family of the late rock musician Tom Petty said that it had issued a cease-and-desist order after Trump used the song "I Won't Back Down" in Tulsa.
