  • In this North American Aerospace Defense Command screen grab a Russian reconnaissance aircraft is seen near Alaska

The intercept was at least the 12th this year involving US and Russian aircraft worldwide, according to a tally by Stars and Stripes.

US F-22 stealth fighter aircraft have scrambled to intercept four Russian reconnaissance jets off Alaska, NORAD, the U.S. and Canadian defence organisation says. The Southern Military district is responsible for security in the Black Sea region.

NORAD forces have identified and intercepted Russian military aircraft including bombers, fighters, and maritime patrol aircraft on ten separate occasions when they have flown into the ADIZ.

The planes were heading toward Russian Federation, according to the statement, but "immediately changed ... direction" after the intercept.

Once intercepted, the United States aircraft changed direction, said the defense ministry, while the Su-30 returned to the base.

The British are fatter than the rest of Europe, says PM Johnson
When asked if he was still anxious that total deaths and the infection rate remained too high, he added: "Every day I worry". But in those moments you have the opportunity to change and to do things better.

"The identification and monitoring of aircraft entering a U.S. or Canadian ADIZ demonstrates how NORAD executes its aerospace warning and aerospace control missions for the United States and Canada", NORAD said. The ministry also released a video of the Su-30 chasing the US aircraft out of the neutral waters.

The Russian aircraft remained in worldwide airspace and at no time entered United States or Canadian sovereign airspace."This year alone, NORAD forces have identified and intercepted Russian military aircraft including bombers, fighters, and maritime patrol aircraft on ten separate occasions when they have flown into the ADIZ", said General Terrence J.

It's not unusual for Russian aircraft to fly close to American territory, but it is rare for intercepts to occur so frequently in one month.

"For the fifth time this month, NORAD has demonstrated our readiness and ability to defend the homeland by intercepting Russian military aircraft entering our Air Defence Identification Zone", said General Terrence J O'Shaughnessy, NORAD Commander. Only last week, it was reported that a Su-27 was forced to intercept a US Air Force B-52H strategic bomber over the Baltic Sea.

For eight hours, they were in the air defense identification zone in the Alaska area, reports The Voice of America.
