Wimbledon CEO Richard Lewis has warned the tournament will not be able to protect itself if the Covid-19 pandemic is still a factor next year.

The tournament was cancelled in April for the first time since World War II due to the coronavirus pandemic.

"It won't be severely impacted".

'This year sadly though things are very different, but we will bide our time until we sit on the edge of our seats again and celebrate again.

Tennis fan Kate, who has attended the tournament most years since becoming a royal, provided a moving voiceover for the footage, which was shared by Wimbledon's Twitter account.

Lewis, who will make way for Sally Bolton at the end of July, says thoughts have already turned to how the Wimbledon 2021 might look - if necessary behind closed doors.

Florida County to Close Beaches, Parks During July 4 Weekend
Florida, Texas , Arizona and California, have emerged as states experiencing a rapidly increasing number of coronavirus cases. During the dates of closure, parades consisting of more than 50 people will be banned as well, he said.

"When I first started in 2012 there were some signs that things were not insurable because of communicable diseases like Sars and swine flu", he said.

"I'm optimistic that the surplus [the annual payment to governing body the LTA] will be pretty well protected, and therefore the impact will be somewhat minimised".

"In the immediate aftermath you can't get insurance but fairly soon after that, you can start to get insurance again, the market returns".

"But just because we've made one claim, it won't affect us in the long term".

Bolton said the organisers would be looking to the U.S. and French Opens as an example of how they might run Wimbledon next year if the pandemic is still ongoing.

"We've got the US Open and Roland Garros being staged later this year and we will be looking closely at what they do, working with the constraints they find themselves under and learning what we can", said Bolton.
