  • Jurgen Klopp urges Liverpool fans to celebrate when 'the time is right'

Police said officers were subject to violent confrontations and had glasses and bottles thrown at them as the celebrations continued in the city centre into the early hours.

The Premier League is edging closer to "assuming responsibility" for both tiers of elite women's football, according to its chief executive, who underlined his personal commitment to the merger in a grilling by MPs.

"My team-mates make me feel special inside and the supporters also, everybody, but the boss has a special place in everything I think for everybody - for the club and also for the supporters because he gave his life to achieve those things that we are achieving".

He said: "We owe it to the most vulnerable in our community, to the health workers who have given so much and whom we have applauded and to the police and local authorities who help us as a club not to do this".

Klopp said fans should celebrate in a safe way in private settings to avoid spreading the disease.

Klopp's direct plea to fans came as a 19-year-old teenager appeared before the city's magistrates charged with causing criminal damage by arson to one of Liverpool's most iconic buildings, the Royal Liver Building, at the waterfront Pier Head.

Crowds also gathered outside Anfield on Thursday after Manchester City's defeat by Chelsea ensured Liverpool could not be caught by their nearest challengers.

65 new cases, 3 deaths in Douglas County
In addition, 32 new cases of COVID-19 were confirmed by Catawba County Public Health Monday, increasing the overall total to 808. There are two new cases reported today, and the state says there was an increase of 60 cases in the past two weeks.

"Even though you can not be at our games at the moment I love that you still made sure that you were with us by making the Kop look like the Kop even if it can not sound like it", he said.

Klopp also praised the "incredible supporters of an incredible club in an incredible city".

Klopp said he would love nothing more than to celebrate together, to have a parade that would be even bigger than the one after Liverpool won the Champions League past year. We have all done so much to fight COVID-19 and this effort can not go to waste.

"When the time is right we will celebrate", he said.

He concluded his plea: "But for now, please stay at home as much as possible".

"In the a year ago we've had lots of dialogue with the FA and our own clubs about the Premier League in some point in the future assuming responsibility for the professional game", he said.
