NASCAR announced it is launching an investigation.

Bubba Wallace drives past the #IStandWithBubba stencil on the field prior to the NASCAR Cup Series race at the Talladega Superspeedway on June 22, 2020. There is no room for this at all and we won't tolerate it.

U.S. Attorney Jay E. Town announced Monday that his office, the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Department of Justice Civil Rights Division are reviewing the incident.

"As we have stated unequivocally, there is no place for racism in NASCAR, and this act only strengthens our resolve to make the sport open and welcoming to all".

Hours after the race was postponed by rain, NASCAR said the noose had been found. The incident follows NASCAR's decision to ban Confederate flags from its races and venues, a move that Wallace championed as the only full-time Black driver in NASCAR's top series.

"God help us", NASCAR driver Michael McDowell tweeted after word of the noose went public. Along with that, he said, "We will not be deterred by the reprehensible actions of those who seek to spread hate". I have confidence NASCAR's leadership will find who did this and continue pushing us in the right direction. Petty, 82, had not originally planned to attend the race due to concerns about the coronavirus. Only 5000 fans were allowed into the sprawling superspeedway and access to the infield and pit areas was also restricted. "Wow y'all, the outpouring of support from friends, family, fans and NASCAR has been awesome to watch this week!" she said.

"I am shocked and appalled to hear of yesterday's vile act against Bubba Wallace in Talladega - there is no place for this disgusting display of hatred in our state", Ivey said.

Alabama governor Kay Ivey on Monday condemned the act and apologized to Wallace, a native of Mobile, calling the 26-year-old "one of us".
