Paramedics were enjoying their KFC meal at the fast food restaurant in Dandenong in Melbourne about 1.30am on Friday when they spotted two people ordering 20 meals.

Victoria police commissioner Shane Patton said on Friday local time that 16 people in the Melbourne suburb of Dandenong were fined for holding a large house party, according to News.com.au.

"It is an expensive night when you think apart from the KFC, we have issued 16 infringements at that amount ($1652), that is $26,000 that birthday party is costing them", he said.

"They saw two people in there, and they were ordering 20-odd meals at 1:30 this morning", Patton told reporters at the news conference Friday.

Australian police busted a birthday party that violated newly-imposed strict lockdown laws after tracking a large order of Kentucky Fried Chicken.

"In this case all 16 people were fined by police", he said. "They will remember that one for a long time".

The frustrated commissioner said two people were found asleep and 16 others were hiding in the backyard with the KFC.

"That is ridiculous that type of behaviour", Police Chief Commissioner Patton said.

Recipients of those fines included "four sex workers" at one address, Patton said, and drivers at checkpoints across the state.

He said the Victoria police have issued 60 fines over 24 hours for similar breaches of the lockdown that are in place with stage 3 restrictions during which people are allowed to go out only for four reasons - exercise, buying essentials, work or medical needs.

As a result, police will be ramping up infringement notices to deal with people still refusing to comply with the state's health order.

"This type of blatant obvious deliberate disregard for the Chief Health Officer's guidelines we will be enforcing and we will continue to do that".

People in lockdown are also encouraged to wear face masks if the safe 1.5metre distance can not be maintained.

"Certainly 288 new cases today is a pretty ugly number".

Victorian Premier, Daniel Andrews, updates the media on Victoria's coronavirus situation.

Comm Patton threatened to increase the number of fines handed out if people don't abide by the lockdown.
