Britney Spears wants to have a say in who will serve as conservator of her estate.

Many fans have speculated she is being held against her will or stolen from, leading to a grass roots movement known as #FreeBritney.

Currently, the singer's father, Jamie Spears, is the court-ordered conservator who oversees all the singer's financial and business affairs.

In papers filed with the Los Angeles Superior Court on Monday, Spears confirmed that she wanted the arrangement to stay in place, but with some amendments.

"This is a voluntary conservatorship", noted Ingham.

"Far from being a conspiracy theory or a "joke" as James reportedly told the media, in large part this scrutiny [on social media] is a reasonable and even predictable result of James' aggressive use of the sealing procedure over the years to minimize the amount of meaningful information made available to the public", said her lawyer Samuel D. Ingham III. Jamie, who served as the sole conservator of Britney since 2008, was replaced temporarily by Jodi Montgomery in September 2019.

Britney Spears is ready to share the details of her conservatorship with the world.

Among those changes was a "desire not to perform at this time", and the removal of her father as her custodian.

USA trade deficit soars to $64B, highest in 12 years
Monthly service exports rose 0.6 per cent to $8.7 billion in July, while service imports edged up 0.2 per cent to $8.5 billion. Big increases were seen in imports of vehicles, parts and engines, industrial supplies and consumer goods in July.

The star requested that the Bessemer Trust Company, a New York-based wealth-management firm, took control of her finances - an estimated $57.4 million (£42.5 million), including about $2.7 million (£2 million) in cash, according to court documents.

'Britney herself is vehemently opposed to this effort by her father to keep her legal struggle hidden away in the closet as a family secret, ' Britney's legal team wrote.

The filing also stated that Spears does not have a developmental disability, and is not now a patient of the California Department of State Hospitals or the California Department of Developmental Services.

This update comes on the heels of news that Britney's sister Jamie Lynn had been secretly named trustee of the artist's fortune. Britney, though, has asked for an independent party take the reins, not the lawyer her father has in mind.

During a status hearing on August 19, the temporary letters of conservatorship were extended until february 1, 2021.

Further, Britney's team said there's no reason to keep the case private since no sensitive issues regarding her minor children will be disclosed.

"People with disabilities have a right to lead self-directed lives and retain their civil rights", the organisation said in a tweet.

We all know WAY more about conservatorships than we ever thought we would thanks to the pop star's ongoing legal battle to revise the conditions of her current situation.
