  • Rey crouches down in 'Star Wars The Rise of Skywalker'

British actor John Boyega (below) has criticised the treatment of non-white characters in the latest Star Wars films, saying they were marketed as important elements in the franchise but were ultimately "pushed to the side".In an interview published by GQ magazine, Boyega expressed bitterness over how his role as black stormtrooper Finn faded in the latter episodes of the trilogy which concluded with "The Rise of Skywalker" in 2019. Boyega points out that blockbuster's POC characters are both underplayed and underrepresented. Finn, a former stormtrooper, played an important role in the first film, but then largely dropped off to become more of a background character as the following films focused more on Rey and Kylo Ren, played by Daisy Ridley and Adam Driver. Now, in an interview with British GQ, he's suggesting that his fellow diverse major cast members experienced similar fates, while Adam Driver and Daisy Ridley's white characters were given "all the nuance" by Disney in the later films. So, do you want me to say? Let's be honest. Daisy knows this.

He went on to say that 'you [Disney] knew what to do with Daisy Ridley, you knew what to do with Adam Driver...but when it came to Kelly Marie Tran, when it came to John Boyega, you know f-ck all. "I'm not exposing anything", he commented.

A lot of fans will be speedy to agree to the sentiment that the final three Star Wars movies had some issues with the scriptwriting.

Private payrolls grow by 428,000 but miss expectations
Economists expect Friday's government non-farm payrolls report to show gains of 1.32 million in August. Large firms dominated job creation, with firms with more than 500 employees adding 298,000 workers.

"You knew what to do with these other people, but when it came to Kelly Marie Tran, when it came to John Boyega, you know f**k all", he continued. No one else in the cast heard that people were going to boycott the movie just because you're in it. But yet people are surprised that I'm this way.

Boyega, who's of Nigerian origin, turned a viral sensation in June when he gave a emotion-packed speech at an anti-racism demonstration in London following the loss of life of George Floyd by the hands of American police in Minneapolis.

Boyega is reportedly starring in the BBC One and Amazon series Small Axe, created by Steve McQueen. He will also star with Jodie Turner-Smith and Felicity Jones in the new film Borderland.
