Worker falls from Florida's StarFlyer attraction to his death, officials say

Jacob David Kaminsky, 21, was killed after plunging from the StarFlyer, Florida's tallest tourist attraction that is billed as the world's tallest swing ride, while performing a routine safety check, according to multiple reports.

A 21-year-old theme park worker who fell nearly 200 feet from the StarFlyer swing ride in Orlando, Florida, has died.

Rescue climbers were able to remove the victim, along with another worker who was uninjured, and take him to a hospital, officials said.

Just before 8 a.m., rescue crews responded to the StarFlyer attraction at ICON Park, NBC affiliate WESH reported.

As of early afternoon, the name of the deceased has not been made public pending the notification of next of kin. "Any time there is an injury or something of this nature, it's extremely sad".

StarFlyer officials did not immediately return a request for comment Monday, but a director of sales and marketing for the attraction told WKMG that its employees are "saddened" by the accident.

Stine said the ride will be closed as authorities investigate the fatal incident.

"No other attraction combines safety and thrills like the StarFlyer", the attraction's website says.

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration and the Orange County Sheriff's Office are conducting the investigation.
