  • Aberdeenshire Council approves second course at Trump International Golf Links

The Scottish authorities approved Trump's construction project, although residents of the Aberdeenshire region of north-east Scotland opposed the project because of, among other things, water distribution.

Plans for a new 18-hole golf course have been approved by Aberdeenshire council.

It will be dubbed MacLeod after Trump's mother, Mary Anne MacLeod.

It was blamed for "destroying" the sand dune system, causing permanent habitat loss.

The area of land had already been marked in the local development plan for two 18-hole golf courses, a 450-room resort hotel with conference centre and a spa.

One local claimed there had been "little meaningful public consultation" on the matter.

The Scottish Environment Protective Agency (SEPA) also objected, saying the water management plan was inadequate and the environmental management plan was not appropriate.

Sam Lowit, Morningside Avenue, Aberdeen, said: 'It is clear that the existing underperforming development is not of benefit to this area, with low attendance figures and ongoing financial losses.

Trump also has another golf course in the same area, Menie Estate.

Aberdeenshire council have been reached for comment.

Trump also owns another luxury golf resort, Turnberry in Ayrshire.

RMT general secretary Mick Cash accused the Turnberry managers of "a con" and said: "It is rank hypocrisy of the highest order for the Trump operation to blame the pandemic and a cash crisis for the axing of dozens of ‎staff at Turnberry while at the same time they were planning all along to spend millions on a new course".
