Preska previously decided in July that the testimony and hundreds of other documents from Giuffre's lawsuit, which was settled in 2017, would be made public, as most of the associated documents are already public.

Refusing to overturn the lower court's decision, the appeal court dismissed as "meritless" Maxwell's argument that her interests should supersede the principle of public access to the documents.

A lawyer for Maxwell had argued that the depositions shouldn't be made public because they are evidence in the criminal case brought against her.

There's no indication that Epstein was ever inappropriate with Ivanka Trump, but seeing her in close proximity to someone her father knew shared his preference for young girls is unsettling.

Ghislaine Maxwell, seen here at center right with the disgraced late financier Jeffrey Epstein, gave a deposition in 2016 that should be released, an appeals court says.

But Maxwell's lawyers said bad publicity from disclosing "intimate, sensitive, and personal details" from the deposition could undermine her ability to defend against criminal charges that she enabled Epstein's sexual abuses.

In a ruling in July, US District Judge Loretta Preska said that the public's right to have access to the information carried heavier weight than the "annoyance or embarrassment" to Ms Maxwell.

Ms Roberts Giuffre sued Maxwell for defamation after she called her a liar. And in July, Maxwell, 58, was charged on several counts related to sex trafficking of minors and perjury. Trump and his then-girlfriend, Melania Knauss, were also photographed with Epstein and his occasional girlfriend Ghislaine Maxwell, who is now in prison for her participation in sex trafficking during her time with Epstein. The U.S. Department of Justice, which opposed modifying the protective order, did not immediately respond to a similar request.

Maxwell was arrested on July 2 in New Hampshire, where prosecutors said she had been hiding out.

Epstein was awaiting trial on federal charges accusing him of operating a sex trafficking ring from 2002 to 2005 at his Manhattan mansion and his Palm Beach estate.

The cases in the 2nd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals are Giuffre v. Maxwell, No. 20-2413, and U.S. v. Maxwell, No. 20-3061.
