Victoria records just two new cases of COVID-19

Victoria's Health Department says the state has recorded one new coronavirus infection and no deaths.

The state has 148 active cases of COVID-19 with the case noted on Saturday linked to an already known outbreak, with 11 healthcare workers and 13 active cases in aged care.

Metropolitan Melbourne's 14-day rolling average is now down to 8.7.

The remarkable result reaffirms the state's downward trend in case numbers after Victoria had just two new cases on Friday.

Mr Andrews said the 17 mystery cases were of "real concern" to the government, as it indicates a degree of community transmission and unknown close contacts.

"Because we as a state have been as stubborn as this virus in our resolve to beat it, we are well placed to take significant steps on Sunday", he said yesterday.
