President Donald Trump's daughter and son-in-law, both top White House aides, are threatening to sue a group of anti-Trump Republicans for posting billboard ads in New York City's Times Square linking them to the country's nearly 225,000 coronavirus deaths.
One of the ads features a smiling Ivanka Trump gesturing towards text showing the number of coronavirus deaths in NY and nationwide.
Ms. Trump and Kushner's attorney Mark Kasowitz released a statement that was reposted by the Lincoln Project on Twitter, saying the billboards in Times Square are "false, malicious, and defamatory ads".
The group, which includes former campaign consultants to President George W. Bush and Senator John McCain, is the most prominent Republican-led organization opposing Trump's re-election on November 3.
The two billboards, which were funded by The Lincoln Project, were unveiled Friday.
"I am writing concerning the false, malicious, and defamatory ads that the Lincoln Project is displaying on billboards in Times Square", Kasowitz wrote in the statement. The other sign shows Jared next to enlarged text of his September quote disregarding NY Governor Andrew Cuomo's COVID-19 aid pleas, where he coldly said New Yorkers "are going to suffer and that's their problem".
The Lincoln Project tweeted out a copy of the threatening letter, accompanied by a simple post which read 'Nuts!'

United Kingdom to begin trials infecting healthy volunteers with COVID in early 2021
The goal of this initial phase is to find the lowest dose of virus that can consistently lead to COVID-19 in most subjects. The first stage of the project will explore the feasibility of exposing healthy volunteers to the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus .
The Lincoln Project which has always been dedicated to electing Republicans, has been a prominent critic of the Trump administration's bungled response to the COVID-19 pandemic, which President Trump again falsely said during the final presidential debate in Nashville, Tennessee on Thursday was "going away".
"If these billboard ads are not immediately removed, we will sue you for what will doubtless be enormous compensatory and punitive damages", Kasowitz said.
"The billboards will stay up".
"We consider it important that in Times Square the crossroads of the world, people are continuously reminded of the cruelty, audacity and staggering lack of empathy the Trumps and the Kushners have displayed towards the American people", the group added.
Both Kushner and Trump have been heavily criticized for their actions during the U.S. coronavirus pandemic.
In the early weeks of the pandemic Kushner had formed a "shadow" White House coronavirus task force to obtain personal protective equipment, which later proved to be chaotic and ineffective.
Both have also ignored venues' face-covering mandates while attending public events in the past.
