The NBA is targeting a December 22 start date for the 2020-21 season, Shams Charania of The Athletic reports.
There were 171 games canceled this season by the coronavirus, which caused the league to suspend operations on March 11.
The last National Basketball Association season was heavily disrupted because of the coronavirus pandemic, which forced a shutdown from March to July after several players tested positive for COVID-19. This season's NBA Finals ended on October 11.

The NBA has made a vow that players would get at least an eight-week notice before the start of the season. NBA Commissioner Adam Silver had previously said the league's issues with China - centered around a Daryl Morey Tweet in support of Hong Kong protesters - cost the league about $400 million.
But the latest reported dates means a clash with the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, scheduled for July 23 to August 8 next year after being postponed due to the pandemic, would be avoided.
ESPN reported that the latest time to strike a deal could be October 30. Now, the NBA Draft is expected to take place in November, which will also bring about the free agency session.
