After emerging from voting early in-person in Florida, President Trump continued to try to cast doubt on mail-in voting, saying his chosen method was "much more secure".

Trump voted early at a precinct in West Palm Beach, Florida, near his Mar-a-Lago estate and club.

"I voted for a guy named Trump", he added.

On the campaign trail on Friday, Mr Biden and Mr Trump renewed their battle over the USA leader's handling of the COVID-19 pandemic.

On Thursday, 12 days before the election, early voting surpassed the total number of early votes cast in 2016.

Trump had requested an absentee ballot but chose to vote in person. Supporters gathered in the library parking lot chanted "four more years" as he voted inside.

"It's going to be a dark winter ahead unless we change our ways", he said of Trump's attempts to contain the coronavirus, which has killed more people in the USA than in any other country. In 2016, he and his wife, Melania, had voted at Public School 59 just a few blocks from Trump Tower in Manhattan.
