Photographers and amateur astronomers alike are about to be treated to a awe-inspiring display of shooting stars, with the annular return of the Orionid meteor shower in the coming days.
According to Accuweather, the Orionid Meteor Shower is a year occurrence - each fall - when the earth passes through Halley's Comet debris field. You should be able to see up to 10 meteors per hour.
These were the details of the news The Orionid meteor shower is peaking tonight!
Incidentally when the Earth travels the path of Halley's Comet, the Orionids can produce a good 70 meters per hour per year. The comet makes an appearance every 76 years on its orbit around the sun. At this time of year, the public will witness one of the most attractive and confirmed meteor shower displays from outer space.
Orionides are really just fragments of dust and debris and have lagged behind the famous Comet Haley on their previous journeys through the inner solar system. It travels into our atmosphere at close to 41 miles per second, majority vaporise in the upper atmosphere.
The surprisingly tiny particles are responsible for the light trail zipping through the night sky as they incinerate in Earth's thick atmosphere.
You don't need any special equipment or skills to view a meteor shower. "In May we have the Eta Aquariids, and in October the Orionids". Shooting stars will occur in the early mornings.

He said items "that other high street shops which are now closed can't sell at the moment" won't be available in supermarkets . Mr Gething said he recognised the ban on selling non-essential items was "difficult" and "hard for people to accept".
The Orionids are known as "extremely fast meteors", going 41 miles per second, so stargazers have to pay attention, according to EarthSky.
They slam into our atmosphere at approximately 148,000mph (66km/s).
What makes these showers distinct are the attractive gas trails left behind that can stretch out for seconds after the meteor itself is gone.
The attractive meteor show began on October 2 and will run until November 7 for both the Northern and Southern Hemispheres to witness.
The Orionids are actually easily visible - even with the naked eye. Enjoy the show and, as always, please share any great meter shots you can get with me on Twitter Ericmac.
