"It feels surreal", said the architect-turned-mystery spinner Varun Chakravarthy after he got a maiden India call-up for the T20 series in Australia following his exploits for Kolkata Knight Riders in the ongoing IPL.
Chakravarthy has so far played only one First-Class game for Tamil Nadu that too in November 2018 and has only nine List A matches and 12 T20 games under his belt - all in the IPL - but has done enough to catch the eye of the national selectors who have taken a big punt on him.
He made his IPL debut last season for Kings XI Punjab without much success before being released and bought by KKR at the December auction. "Thankfully, I was able to do well till now and hopefully I will be able to perform for the Indian team as well", Chakravarthy said. Former Indian cricketer Sunil Gavaskar has lauded the 29-year-old's achievement. "I keep using the same word again and again, it feels surreal", he told BCCI.tv after the game against Kings XI Punjab on Monday night.

La LFP exige la réintégration de Stéphane Ruffier — ASSE
En effet, dès le mois de février, mécontent d'avoir été écarté pour un match de championnat, Ruffier est entré en conflit avec son club et le litige dure depuis.
"I am really short of words right now". I am not very active on social media and I have to thank the selectors for keeping their faith in me. India call-up is definitely a big thing for me. However, his best performance came against Delhi Capitals where Chakravarthy ended up with 5 for 20 in his four-over quota. "I still do it, I like that as well (being an architect)". "I was really not expecting it", Chakravarthy said in a video posted by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on its website.
"Around 2015, when I was not making a lot of money (the switch from being an architect to becoming a cricketer), was freelancing and wasn't able to meet my needs, I thought I would do something different, that's when I turned to cricket".
