California added to NYS travel quarantine list, but MA gets exemption

Officials in CT went ahead and did it anyway.

Also Tuesday, New York's governor urged residents to avoid trips to MA but did not add it or other neighboring states with high coronavirus rates to its official advisory list.

California, Massachusetts and Pennsylvania on Tuesday were placed on the list of states impacted by the regional travel advisory between Connecticut, New Jersey, and NY, which is updated weekly, according to Connecticut Gov. Ned Lamont's office.

CT and New Jersey meet the criteria for each other's shared advisories.

There are exemptions to the advisory for essential workers, like health care professionals and governmental employees, who have to travel for their jobs. They were left off the list because of "the interconnected nature of the region and mode of transport between the states", according to the statement from Lamont's office.

Still, Baker said his office had been in contact with Lamont - and had objected to MA being added. They are still required to complete the state's travel health form, though.

Covid-19: Six further deaths, 866 additional cases
There have been nine further Covid-19-linked deaths in Northern Ireland as hospitals reach 103% occupancy, new figures have shown. The WHD reports Johnson County has 62 cases recovered and has experienced 2 deaths resulting from the coronavirus.

Nevertheless, Baker said the travel advisories are an "important part" of how states are managing out-of-state visitors during the pandemic and encouraged Bay Staters to abide by Connecticut's revised rules - even if MA appears to have slightly lower coronavirus rates. However, New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo's office said Tuesday that a quarantine requirement is "not practically viable" for neighboring states.

Connecticut's treatment of MA diverges from the actions taken Tuesday by NY, which uses the same 10 cases per 100,000 residents threshold.

Anyone traveling or returning to New Jersey from these states is being urged to quarantine for 14 days once they arrive to prevent the spread of the coronavirus.

States are considered to have significant community spread when they report more than 10 cases a day per 100,000 residents or a positive test rate greater than 10% over a seven-day average.

CT also has higher COVID-19 rates than MA based on its two-week positive test rate, which was 2.5 percent Wednesday.
