Rachel Maddow Thought Her Partner's COVID Battle 'Might Kill Her'

Maddow said Susan tested positive two weeks ago and they separated that day.

During her return, Rachel revealed that her longtime partner Susan Mikula was the one that battled the virus, and that it nearly killed her.

"At one point, we really thought there was a possibility that it might kill her", Maddow said. Fortunately, Maddow says it appears the worst is behind them. and Susan will likely recover.

"Don't get this thing".

She then addressed the viewers who are considering travelling or hosting guests for the year's biggest family holiday next Thursday.

In a 2011 interview with The Advocate, Mikula explained why she took pictures. "Susan and I have been together for over 21 years".

Maddow and Mikula met in 1999 when Maddow was working on her dissertation for a PhD in political science from Oxford University.

'I'm one of the lucky people on this Earth that has a life like that.

The bottom line is that she's gonna be fine. "I'm just here to tell you to recalibrate that", she said. It will be the person you most care about in the world, and how can you bear that? "She is recovering. She's still sick, but she's going to be OK, and we're not scared anymore like we were".

Maddow went on to implore her viewers to consider their loved ones when calculating their own risks, to stay home this Thanksgiving, and "yeah, that's going to suck, but that is going to suck so much less than you or somebody in your family getting this and getting sick".

'For Thanksgiving next week, you really are just going to have to just have it at home without people coming over, and yeah that's going to suck but it's going to suck so much less than you or someone in your family getting sick'. "Frankly, the country needs you to recalibrate that because broadly speaking, there's no room in the hospital for you anymore".

At least 251,000 people have died and more than 11.7 million cases have been reported in the United States since the start of the pandemic.

The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recorded 165,087 new positive cases of COVID-19 as of Thursday, with an additional 1,836 new deaths attributed to complications from the infection.
