President Trump joined the first of two virtual meetings with world leaders Saturday as part of a coronavirus-throttled G20 summit - in what could be the last global gathering of his presidency.
In opening remarks, King Salman bin Abdul-Aziz Al Saud of Saudi Arabia, which hosted the virtual two-day meeting, applauded initiatives by G-20 nations to invest $21 billion in global efforts to combat the pandemic and $11 trillion to bolster the global economy.
"Our peoples and economies are still suffering from this shock".
"From the very beginning, we have emphasized that we should take care of people's health and of the economy at the same time". Based on this, the G20 can lay the foundation of a new world, he said.
He said Turkey is in favour of fair share of global growth within the World Trade Organisation (WTO) rules but demanded a reform process of WTO.
Keen to be better prepared for any potential next pandemic that might come, G20 leaders also said they would commit "to advancing global pandemic preparedness, prevention, detection, and response" and "to the continued sharing of timely, transparent, and standardized data and information".
The leaders are huddling online for the two-day gathering as global efforts intensify for a large-scale rollout of coronavirus vaccines after a breakthrough in trials, and as calls grow for G20 nations to plug a $4.5-billion funding shortfall.
In a statement, the White House said Trump highlighted to his fellow world leaders at the G-20 summit that the US had "marshaled every resource at its disposal to respond to the crisis".
To do that, the European Union urged G20 leaders to quickly put more money into a global project for vaccines, tests, and therapeutics called Access to COVID-19 Tools (ACT) Accelerator.
"There is a lack of participation from private creditors, and we strongly encourage them to participate on comparable terms when requested by eligible countries", it said.
Xi Jinping said China will offer help and support to other developing countries. "China actively supports and participates in worldwide cooperation on COVID-19 vaccines", he said. China has five home-grown candidates undergoing Phase III trials.

"We will spare no effort to ensure their affordable and equitable access for all people, consistent with members' commitments to incentivise innovation", the leaders said in the draft G20 statement.
But G20 leaders face mounting pressure to help stave off possible credit defaults across developing nations.
The pandemic has had far-reaching economic impact on developing countries, but has also plagued the world's wealthiest nations, with nine G-20 countries ranking highest globally for the most cases of COVID-19 recorded. President-elect Joe Biden has not said whether he will join it.
The International Labor Organization says an equivalent of 225 million full-time jobs were lost in G-20 countries alone in the third quarter of 2020.
Some Western officials have indicated human rights will not be raised at the summit, saying they prefer to use bilateral forums to discuss the issue with Riyadh.
The communique offered no details on how the effort will be funded.
