The two countries will begin negotiations next year to expand their commercial agreements to cover digital trade, the environment and women's economic empowerment, the U.K.'s Department for International Trade said in an emailed statement on Saturday.

The UK and Canada have agreed a deal to continue trading under the same terms as the current European Union agreement after the Brexit transition period ends.

The deal with Canada marks the second major trade deal to be secured ahead of the completion of the Brexit transition period, following the announcement of a trade deal with Japan over the summer. The talks will resume in London from Friday, said the news, if depending on the results of Covid-19 tests.
