  • Sunshine Coast Airport chief executive Andrew Brodie has welcomed the announcement that Queensland’s borders would reopen on December 1

Ms Palaszczuk said there would be an update on travellers from Victoria tomorrow.

The reopening of the borders is also likely to see a surge in air traffic between Melbourne and Sydney, one of the busiest routes in the world before the pandemic, with Sydney airport expecting almost 4,000 passengers across 26 flights from Victoria on Monday. It means jobs for Queenslanders.

"We know how tough this has been on families - this is a great day, it's exciting news and it has met the requirements that Dr Young has set".

The two states closed the border on July 8 for the first time in more than a century, as the government in Victoria moved to contain a surge in COVID-19 cases in Melbourne, the state's capital and Australia's second-biggest city.

Premier Palaszczuk has repeatedly stated that she would only open her state up to areas that have recorded a month without so-called community transmission - that is cases of COVID where no source of the infection can be traced.

"Dr Young is now satisfied that they have reached the 28 days".

Queensland's Deputy Premier, Steven Miles, called the announcement "a great day for Australia".

"South Australia - we're still waiting to see how their outbreak unfolds - it's been really good so far, they've had only small numbers ... we just have to see what happens in that first incubation period". "And as you know, Queensland, 'beautiful one day, ideal the next'".

Ms Berejiklian says she took a test as a precaution after losing her voice and she had "no virus symptoms".

"It's wonderful to be back in communication with the New South Wales Premier", Ms Palaszczuk said.

Ms Palaszczuk told Nine News this morning things are looking positive, with the border opening to Victoria also in her sights.

"We're very safe here because of worldwide border restrictions, but it could happen at any time".
