The Walt Disney Company has announced that it will layoff a total of 32000 employees, which includes the previously announced 28000 at the parks, and they will primarily come from the Disney Parks, Experience, Products segment.
The layoffs will be in the first half of 2021, the company said in a filing late on Wednesday with the United States Securities and Exchange Commission. The company announced its plans to cut about 28,000 jobs back in September.
"Due to the current climate, including COVID-19 impacts, and changing environment in which we are operating, the Company has generated efficiencies in its staffing, including limiting hiring to critical business roles, furloughs and reductions-in-force", Disney said in a filing explaining the job losses.
Additionally, around 37,000 employees were placed on furlough from October 3, Variety reported.

Disney's theme parks in Florida and those outside the US reopened earlier this year without seeing new major coronavirus outbreaks but with strict social distancing, testing and mask use.
But unlike the Disney theme parks in Florida, Tokyo, Hong Kong, Shanghai and Paris, the Anaheim resort has so far been unable to reopen due to the state's coronavirus restrictions.
With the parks business struggling, Disney has put an increasing amount of focus on its DTC business, and Disney+ in particular - with the SVOD recently announced as hitting 73 million global subscribers.
