Knight Riders Expand Into US Through Investment In Major League Cricket

KKR and Red Chillies Entertainment CEO Venky Mysore said the decision to venture in Major League Cricket is part of their long-term strategy.

Incidentally, US citizen of Pakistani origin, pacer Ali Khan was part of this year's CPL champion Trinbago Knight Riders and was also roped in as first US player in the IPL before injury cut short his journey. After successfully establishing Kolkata Knight Riders in IPL and the Trinbago Knight Riders in the Caribbean Premier League, SRK has now chosen the United States as his next cricket destination.

Commenting on the big news, SRK said, "For several years now, we have been expanding the Knight Riders brand globally and closely watching the potential for T20 cricket in the USA".

After the IPL and CPL, this is the third such league in which the Knight Riders group, owned by Shah Rukh Khan and Juhi Chawla along with her husband Jay Mehta, will have a team in. "We are convinced that Major League Cricket has all the pieces in place to execute on its plans and we look forward to making our partnership an enormous success in the coming years", Mumbai Mirror quoted a statement from Shah Rukh as saying.

Major League Cricket will feature top worldwide players from the US and around the world, underpinned by a focus on pathways to develop a homegrown player pool for USA Cricket and the league.
