Visiting cricketer tests positive for COVID-19

The Ministry of Health said it was the only coronavirus case to report in New Zealand on Wednesday.

The result of one more test is pending. The third person arrived from South Africa on 26 November and tested positive in day three testing.

The squad member was one of the three cases reported as under investigation yesterday.

The first six cases involving members of the 53-strong Pakistan squad were detected on the teams first day in New Zealand last week and the seventh shortly afterwards.

An official of Health ministry told Geo that an update on pending tests and investigations on "historical case" will be provided tomorrow.

They included a person arriving from Germany via Singapore on November 23, who had a historical case, another arriving from the United States on November 23, and a third arriving from South Africa on November 26.

"Day 6 swabs were taken yesterday from the 46 members of the Pakistan cricket squad in Christchurch who to date have returned negative test results for Covid-19", said the spokesperson of New Zealand health ministry.

"To reiterate, these people (historic cases) are not infectious and don't pose a risk to others", the authorities explained.
