Hancock was speaking shortly after an announcement that Britain's medicines regulator had approved the Pfizer vaccine and that vaccination would start next week. "We've got to beat this, we've got to beat it together".

British Health Minister Matt Hancock told Times radio that thanks to leaving the EMA, the United Kingdom would "not go at the pace of the Europeans, who are moving a little bit more slowly".

Others hit out at Piers for thinking he would have any sway over whether people take the vaccine or not.

During the interview, Mr Hancock also weighed in on the debate about whether scotch eggs can be counted as a substantial meal in pubs in Tier 2. So a Scotch egg absolutely can be.
