Ivanka Trump, President Trump's daughter and a senior White House adviser, was deposed on Tuesday by investigators from the Washington, D.C., attorney general's office as part of a lawsuit alleging the misuse of inauguration funds, CNN reported.

The probe, which has been led by the D.C. attorney general has been looking into the spending of the Trump inaugural committee and specific spending at the Trump International Hotel in Washington, D.C. The probe has looked at whether President Donald Trump has violated the emoluments clause or profited from the presidency. The lawsuit alleges Barrack "personally managed" discussions with the Trump hotel regarding the event spaces used.

The filing also said that Inaugural Committee chairman Tom Barrack was deposed in November as a part of the investigation.

The committee's own event planner - Stephanie Winston Wolkoff - advised against the transaction, telling the committee and the Trump family that the charges were at least twice the market rate, the lawsuit states.

Ivanka Trump's deposition was disclosed in a filing by the D.C. attorney general, posted Wednesday.

The US Justice Department is investigating a potential crime related to funnelling money to the White House in exchange for a presidential pardon, according to court documents unsealed in federal court. Last week, President Donald Trump pardoned his former national security advisor, Michael Flynn.

Trump has also reportedly discussed the possibility of pardoning himself, with many top allies allegedly asking the president to preemptively issue them pardons as well.

Presidents enjoy wide latitude under the US Constitution in pardoning people convicted of federal crimes.
