Lou Holtz, the former New York Jets and University of Notre Dame football coach, will receive the nation's highest civilian honor on Thursday, the White House announced Wednesday.
Holtz, 83, tested positive for the coronavirus on November 19. He said that he didn't have a lot of energy while he was dealing with the virus.

Holtz, a supporter of Trump's unsuccessful bid for re-election, drew a rebuke from Notre Dame President John Jenkins after the former coach described Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden as a "Catholic in name only" during his speech at the 2020 Republican National Convention. Holtz slammed now President-elect Joe Biden and other Democrats, claiming they was "Catholics in name only" due to their willingness to support abortion, Politico reports. "After growing up in a small town in West Virginia, Holtz attended Kent State University, becoming the first member of his family to enroll in college". He would serve as an Officer in the United States Army Reserves for seven years but it was in coaching where he left his mark.
