Within days you may be directed to stay at home in the fight against coronavirus as hair salons, playgrounds, museums, wineries and bars and more will all be ordered to shut down.
Gov. Gavin Newsom announced in a COVID-19 update Thursday that the state will be introducing a regional stay-at-home order, projected to apply to Nevada County early this month. Once that trigger is reached, the regional stay-at-home orders will kick in for at least three weeks, or until intensive-care unit capacities rebound.
Gov. Gavin Newsom announced new rules that take effect Saturday, created to keep local health systems from collapsing under the weight of skyrocketing COVID-19 caseloads.
None of the five regions are now under the new order, but projections show four regions will reach that threshold in the next day or two, with only the San Francisco Bay Area expected to remain open until mid-December, Newsom said at a news conference. The Greater Sacramento, Northern California, San Joaquin Valley and Southern California regions are projected to drop below the 15% capacity ICU-bed threshold in early December; the Bay Area is projected to reach that level by mid- to late December, Newsom said.
Santa Clara County's COVID-19 dashboard states that the seven-day rolling average of ICU beds with COVID-19 patients is only 23% as of Thursday.
"If we don't act now, our hospital system will be overwhelmed". "So we're going to stay open, going to keep doing takeout, smoking chickens, doing some more meal prep for people". Schools that have received a waiver can remain open, as well as critical infrastructure. "Lives are in the balance", Newsom continued.
He has already imposed restrictions, including a nighttime curfew on 51 of the state's 58 counties.
Newsom also noted that the state still has a travel advisory in place recommending against non-essential travel and urging people to quarantine when they return to the state.
RV parks and other campgrounds in five regions of the state will be prohibited from accepting overnight guests.

Jens Hauge and Brahim Diaz then scored a goal each in the second half to give Milan a 4-2 win that all but ensured their progression into the next round.
Paige went on to say in the letter that he and a coalition of local restaurants opposed to the statewide mandates commit to "look for ways to circumvent Gov. Gavin Newsom's coronavirus mandates" as well as "stand with our county supervisors" to lobby Sacramento, protest for the governor to pay more attention to local supervisors, and as local citizens, "be conscious and respectful of where people are in the situation and stop being selfish".
The order came as cases have surged across the state and the country.
The Southern California region includes Imperial, Inyo, Los Angeles, Mono, Riverside, San Bernardino, San Diego, San Luis Obispo, Santa Barbara, Ventura Counties.
The governor stressed that the pandemic emergency won't last forever.
"There is light at the end of the tunnel", he said. With vaccines, the state is a few months away from seeing some control over the virus, he said. But we all really need to step up. The state's stockpile of personal protective equipment is full.
"Governor Newsom clearly doesn't understand that Californians are exhausted of being locked in their homes", Sen.
In reaction to the new order, California Senate Republican Leader Shannon Grove (Bakersfield) asked for transparency and called on the governor to release data on the consequences of COVID-19.
But Sen. Dianne Feinstein, D-California, threw her support behind Newsom, saying skyrocketing case numbers make the action necessary. "The toll of this pandemic on families across the country has been devastating, and the mental, economic and social wellbeing of many Americans is suffering". We need to see this moment head on.
