Actors including Gandalf himself, Sir Ian McKellen, and Martin Freeman, who played Bilbo in "The Hobbit" films, have launched the "Project Northmoor" crowdfunding campaign to purchase Tolkien's home and transform it into a literary centre in his honour.
"We can not achieve this without the support of the worldwide community of Tolkien fan", says McKellen in the video. The non-profit group's fundraising goal is £4.5 million ($7.8 million), but only £4.5 million ($6.8 million) is needed to purchase the house. Watch the full Project Northmoor announcement in the video below.
The campaign was launched by British author Julia Golding on December 2 and will run until March 15, 2021.
Seeing as it's JRR Tolkien, it's only right that a fellowship of people are coming together on a noble quest. In the event $6.1 million is raised, the campaign will fund renovations and restore the garden.
"To raise six million dollars in three months is a huge challenge", Golding said in the release.

"Massive relief" | NSW records no new COVID cases
Earlier, Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk said no NSW resident should be too concerned about getting into Queensland for Christmas. However Queensland authorities say its borders will remain open for now after travel restrictions were lifted on Tuesday.
"However, we need only to look at Frodo and Sam's journey from Rivendell to Mount Doom, which took that same amount of time - and we are inspired that we can do this too!" she said in a news release.
"Project Northmoor", in reference to 20 Northmoor Road where Tolkien wrote both "The Hobbit" and 'The Lord of the Rings', is seeking to raise £4 million to purchase the home and an additional £500,000 to renovate it and turn it into a literary centre for Tolkien's works and legacy. We have actors who provide a wonderfully wide range of representation, which is something we really didn't get in the Peter Jackson Lord of the Rings films.
"We can not achieve this without the support of the worldwide community of Tolkien fans, our fellowship of funders", McKellen says in a video posted December 2 to launch Project Northmoor.
The organization says those who donate will have their name listed in the "Red Book of funders" that will sit in Tolkien's study and, depending on the level of donation, be invited to VIP events and even overnight stays at the house.
