"Albertans have done a good job of staying the course and abiding by public health measures, but we are still seeing high hospitalizations and case numbers, and this continues to put a serious strain on our health-care system", said Shandro.

The government officials would not say when or at what benchmark other restrictions would be eased.

But, she said, she hoped the loosened rules would allow Albertans more opportunity to socialize while limiting in-person interaction.

A total of 1,402 Albertans have died with COVID-19 being a contributing factor.

"At this point I want to stress to everyone that while we are actively looking at what restrictions we are able to ease in the weeks ahead in order to make any further changes".

Currently, there are 806 Albertans in the hospital with COVID-19 and 136 of them are in the ICU. However, she warned flouting existing laws could make the situation worse and extend the length of time current restrictions are in place.

The decision to ease some restrictions was based on provincial data and research published around the world, she said.

As of Thursday, there were 820 Albertans hospitalized from COVID-19 including 137 in ICU.

Alberta has confirmed 776 new cases and 13 additional deaths attributed to COVID-19.

50-59 years, 40 deaths.

A total of 66,953 doses of vaccine had been administered by the end of the day on Wednesday.
