Tennis Australia is in the middle of getting 1,200 players and their staff across 15 separate charter flights into Melbourne and Adelaide.

The Victorian government's COVID-19 Quarantine Victoria (CQV) confirmed an aircrew member and an Australian Open participant who is not a player, tested positive after arriving on the flight from Los Angeles on Friday morning.

The tournament officials issued a prompt clarification stating that Sandgren was allowed to travel to Australia after consultations with medical authorities regarding his positive test results.

"I've never been one to focus too much on what other people think of me or specifically of that, because I don't think this defines me".

More than 1,000 tennis players and officials from around the world have been allowed entry for the tournament despite many residents overseas and interstate unable to come home. "Upon completion of that review he was cleared to fly", read the statement.

Sandgren later tweeted that his two tests were less than eight weeks apart while adding he was sick in November and has totally recovered now.

Players and their teams will be tested every day during quarantine.

Britain's Press Association news agency said the three-time major victor, apparently in good health, was hoping to arrive in Australia at a later date.

Despite the quarantine, Tiley said he expected virtually all the top players to make the trip with a handful of exceptions, including the injured Roger Federer and John Isner, who pulled out over the Covid-19 restrictions.
