Violence has surged across Afghanistan in recent months, especially in Kabul where a new trend of targeted killings of high-profile figures have sown fear and chaos in the restive city.

On Friday, US Acting Secretary of Defence Christopher Miller said that the Pentagon had drawn down troops in Afghanistan and Iraq to just 2,500 soldiers in each country, in line with President Donald Trump's order.

The attack on the judges happened as they were travelling to their office in a court vehicle, Ahmad Fahim Qaweem, a spokesman for the court told AFP.

Meanwhile, one policeman was killed and two more were wounded in a roadside bomb blast that targeted a police vehicle in the city of Pul-e-Khumri in Baghlan province this morning, the provincial police said.

Thirteen members of Afghan Local Police were killed in an attack by Taliban "infiltrators" in their outpost in Ghorian district of Herat province on Friday night, Security officials in Herat said on Saturday.

Representatives from two warring sides are now in the Qatari capital Doha discussing the agenda for the talks.

Taliban continues to carry out attacks on Afghan government targets, make territorial gains, and target Afghan National Defense and Security Forces (ANDSF) bases.

That deal was struck in return for security guarantees from the insurgents and a commitment to peace talks with the Afghan government.
