The FBI is questioning dozens of people in the killing of Brian Sicknick, a police officer who died a day after physically engaging with a mob of supporters of President Donald Trump who stormed the U.S. Capitol last week, and other assaults on law enforcement, the New York Times reported on Friday.

The Capitol Police did not immediately respond to Fox News' after-hours request for comment. "Look at what's happening now to the people who were involved in the Capitol siege".

USA security agencies have arrested more than 100 individuals for their criminal activities in last week's siege of the Capitol and are monitoring "an extensive amount of concerning online chatter" ahead of President-elect Joe Biden's inauguration on January 20, FBI Director Christopher Wray said.

Federal officials have warned local law enforcement agencies that the riot at the Capitol is likely to inspire others with violent intentions.

The 12-page intelligence memo also identified potential security flaws that may have led to the breach.

But, unfortunately, I did it, and I have to own up to it and I'm very apologetic. It's not who I am, it's not the kind of person that I am or anything that I do.

After last Wednesday's riot, fencing and barriers were installed around the Arizona State Capitol complex in downtown Phoenix. "So in that vein, we and our partners have already arrested more than 100 individuals for their criminal activities in last week's siege of the Capitol and continue to pursue countless other related investigations".

Wray also said that law enforcement was aware of and monitoring "an extensive amount of concerning online chatter" ahead of President-elect Biden's inauguration next week, but added that authorities were having to sift through "what's aspirational versus what's intentional".

"Right now, we're tracking calls for potential armed protests and activity leading up to the inauguration", Wray said.

The report, parts of which were obtained by The Washington Post, said the potential targets of the rioters were "not necessarily the counter-protesters as they were previously, but rather Congress itself". "We're concerned about the potential for violence at multiple protests and rallies planned here in DC and at state capitol buildings around the country in the days to come that could bring armed individuals within close proximity to government buildings and officials", he stressed.
