According to The Hollywood Reporter, the pilot episode of The Last of Us TV series will now be directed by Beanpole helmer Kantemir Balagov which was co-written by Chernobyl creator Craig Mazin and The Last of Us video game creative director Neil Druckmann. Last October, it was reported that he's attached to direct an Adam Sandler science fictin movie called The Spaceman of Bohemia, so perhaps that's the project that's causing the conflict here.

Beanpole, a drama centered on two women in Leningrad post-WWII, was selected as Russia's entry for Best Picture of for the 92nd Academy Awards in 2019, but was ultimately not selected for the final gala.
