United Kingdom government will not lower workers' rights standards, its business secretary said Twitter Thursday, in response to a Financial Times report on plans to change European Union labor regulations as part of a post-Brexit overhaul.
The Telegraph understands that options drawn up by officials include the removal of the requirement of businesses to log the daily reporting of working hours, saving firms money.
Conservative MP Kwasi Kwarteng, the Secretary of State for Business, however, dismissed the report.
"We want to protect and enhance workers' rights going forward, not row back on them".
"We are not going to lower the standards of workers' rights", he said.

Mesut Ozil: Arsenal agree deal for exit ahead of Fenerbahce switch
According to the Athletic , the Gunners have reached an "agreement in principle" to terminate the 32-year-old's deal this month. Ozil spoke of his admiration for the Turkish side during a social media question-and-answer session during the week.
But his Labour shadow, Ed Miliband, said the FT report "exposes the truth about the government's priorities, which are way out of step with the needs of workers and their families".
Miliband said: "In the midst of the worst economic crisis in three centuries, ministers are preparing to tear up their promises to the British people and taking a sledgehammer to workers' rights".
"These proposals are not about cutting red tape for businesses but ripping up vital rights for workers. They should not even be up for discussion", he said.
Under the current law employers cannot force employees to work more than 48 hours per week, averaged out over 17 weeks, though employees can agree to work more hours and some jobs, such as nursing, farming and hospitality have some exemptions. However, this would be gauged against the impact of any United Kingdom changes on competition.
