  • 'Lupin': Netflix's original french series trends worldwide

The 1905 book on which the series is loosely based, "Arsene Lupin - Gentleman Burglar" by French novelist Maurice Leblanc - has shot to the top of book sales on Amazon.fr since the release of the TV show.

"Lupine" debuted in the Netflix Popularity Rankings this week, but couldn't overtake "Bridgerton". Deadline notes that this tops previous 2020 hits such as "Bridgerton" and "The Queen's Gambit," which reportedly reached 63 million and 62 million homes in their first 28 days, respectively.

Netflix's new French series "Lupine" debuted last week with critical acclaim, and it's now one of Netflix's most popular titles. Lupin has entered Netflix's Top 10 Shows in most countries around the globe, including Pakistan where the series stands on No. 1.

In addition to being a top streamer in the U.S., Netflix reports that "Lupin" ranked first in France, Brazil, Vietnam, Argentina, Germany, Italy, Spain, Poland, The Netherlands, The Philippines, Sweden and more.

Variety notes that while the numbers seem impressive, Netflix does not track its viewership measurements in the traditional ways the TV networks do. Netflix is believed to have around 9 million French subscribers.

Created by George Kay and inspired by the "Arsène Lupin" novels, the rollicking "Lupin" stars Sy ("Jurassic World") as gentleman thief Assane Diop, who sets out to avenge his father for an injustice that changed his life by recreating some of his hero Lupin's famous heists.
