IPL 2021 auction likely to be held on February 21

As per reports, the same is said to have been decided during the IPL Governing Council which had met virtually earlier this week.

"We will have the players' retention till January 21 and the trading window for the franchises closes on February 4", IPL Chairman Brijesh Patel told PTI.

The venue for the auction has also not been finalised yet, but as per the report it will take place in the gap between the first and second Test of the India-England series, which starts from February.

It isn't customary for Indian Premier League fans to discuss player retention and auction strategies a couple of months after the completion of a season. However, the dates and venues of IPL 2021 are yet to be finalized. While the first Test between India and England is scheduled on 5-9 February, the second match will be played between 13-17.

It is understood the three-person panel, which is headed by former India batsman Brijesh Patel and also has former India left-arm spinner Pragyan Ojha as a member, deliberated on the various options for the venue.

According to ESPNCricinfo, The IPL governing council had discussed the various options for the venue considering the pandemic throwing up several challenges regularly. The franchises, on the other hand, are busy finalising the list of players they would want to retain and release. Instead, fans shouldn't expect most teams to make changes in bulk for the 14th season.

The report says that Chennai Super Kings, which has the lowest purse among all the eight teams (INR 15 lakh), is set to release big salaried players in Kedar Jadhav and Piyush Chawla in a bid to increase their purse value.

They had just 0.15 crore left in their purse while the Kings XI Punjab had the largest balance of INR 16.5 crore.

Rajasthan Royals have the maximum purse 14.75 crore, followed by Sunrisers Hyderabad (10.1 crore), Delhi Capitals (9 crore), Kolkata Knight Riders (8.5 crore), Royal Challengers Bangalore (6.4 crore).
