  • Stellantis confident on cost savings announces China review

The merger sees more than 14 brands come together, making it the fourth-largest auto company in the world.

"As previously announced, the Board of Directors of Stellantis is composed of two executive directors, John Elkann (Chairman) and Carlos Tavares (Chief Executive Officer)", wrote Stellantis is a statement Sunday.

In his first press conference as Stellantis CEO, Tavares also said he had created a task force to find out "what went wrong" for both Fiat Chrysler (FCA) and PSA in China.

Italy PM Conte Looks To Cling To Power In Crucial Senate Vote
It abstained on Tuesday, leaving the door open for a possible return to the coalition if its policy demands are met. As a result, some of them played it safe this week and helped Conte stay in office.

Tavares said that "from a pure logistic perspective" it could make more sense to focus investment in electric auto manufacturing in the European Union rather than the United Kingdom, because it sells more of the vehicles in the former.

"We completely respect and will comply with those rules", he said, "but if they lead to a case [where] there is no business model, the consequences are clear".

While Tavares praised the United Kingdom unions and workforce for their efforts during the Covid pandemic, he was adamant that this is a business decision, saying: "if you brutally change the rules, there is a problem".

He said the firm is "reviewing those different scenarios" and expects to make a decision about the Ellesmere Port plant "within a few weeks".

Mr Tavares pledged that "we will not shut down plants as a effect of the merger" between PSA and Fiat Chrysler, but noted that companies have an "ethical responsibility... to make the appropriate decisions" if a country is "putting so many barriers (up) that there is no room to find something that creates value".
